From my friend on facebook: [View all]
I realize some of my friends don't share my political beliefs. When something strikes me as important or thought provoking, I share it with ALL my friends because I want to hear the opinions of those whose views I value and respect, even if they are different from mine.
I've worked my entire life in the fields of environmental analysis and community development. Of course I'm going to fear and mistrust an administration that wants to destroy not only my life's work, but the entire world as I know it. So before calling me an ignorant libtard, please consider that I have a lot to potentially lose in order make America "great" again. I bet we will all miss clean water, breathable air, and the grant money that's kept our bridges safe and our downtowns economically stable.
The programs I work for build wheelchair ramps for disabled veterans and allows senior citizens to remain in their homes by making them accessible as they age in place. They support small business owners and build parks, and help keep the money we spend in our communities so everyone benefits. I nearly failed political science in college - I'm not pretending to know all the intricacies of any particular agenda. I do, however, have strong opinions on slashing funding for healthcare and environmental protection and community development.
I'm curious, what exactly do we think will happen if the EPA, HUD, and NPS are no longer funded? Will our salaries be raised? Will we all get better jobs? Will the economy improve when millions of state and federal workers are unemployed and rural communities no longer receive grant funds and our kids are all lead poisoned? I just don't understand.
So please, if you don't agree with me, let's have a conversation. I'd like to know how you arrived at your opinions. I will probably learn something. And I won't call you names.
