(11,137 posts)All of this religion and nonsense and smug feelings of superiority speak volumes of the inanity of religious beliefs of any stripe, but the core tenets of eternal torture from an "all-loving god" and eternal life from the same are truly stupidity writ large.
Eternal? Really? I often wonder if these people who are so fervent in their "salvation" have ever stopped to really consider what that would mean in real application. I wonder if they can recognize the poignancy of life and what makes it precious at all. It is NOT the duration of a life that makes it meaningful, worthy or beautiful. It is not the accumulation of things or the aggregation of power. It is not the ability to lord over others in reality or in make believe thoughts of the future. It is the temporal relationships that are built and maintained, nourished and grown. It is the positive impacts to family, friends and strangers that can make this life worthy, fulfilling and meaningful. None of which requires a fealty to the unseen or obedience to the unknown to achieve and cultivate.
I am in a very bad religion mood today following the senseless Manchester bombing. I truly hope there is a hell for those rotten bastards at the restaurant, because in a cosmic irony, the only way for there to be a "hell" (a worst possible place for eternity) for me would be to make me sit in heaven with THEM and their kind...I'd rather roast in hell than spend 5 minutes in their company.
