(58,785 posts)some in this field have become beyond indecent on the subject, using that as an excuse for expression of rampant bigotry, so I guess I can imagine well enough. It doesn't help their attitudes that some have far better English skills than are commonly taught here.
Of course those who prefer to imagine all Hispanics as somehow illegitimate and not belonging here, citizenship invalid and irrelevant, have always been well represented in LA also. Over 30 years ago now our friend Maria, born American, mother of Americans, and owner of 2 businesses was stopped for no particular reason on the street by immigration officers who demanded to see proof she was here legally. An illegal stop in those days and those circumstances, and she told those bullies to back off or she'd take action. Scares me to think of now.
