something like a game of checkers implies agreement on ground rules and intent to cooperate with one's opponent in adhering to established guidelines of fairness and decency.
for several decades, it seemed to me like Republicans generally sat down at the board with their hockey sticks ready to smash the board and forcefully pound on their opposition when things didn't go their way.
now it's more like they've unleashed an pre-potty-training toddler in a perpetual tantrum to defecate on the board and scream the whole time.
frankly, compared to what we have now, i'd welcome a nice, quiet game of checkers.
