"black box voting." This was an especially hot topic in the wake of the 2000 and 2004 elections, which prompted several people to research the possibility of rigging elections electronically.

Sadly, Andy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and didn't have the healthcare coverage to try and treat it. Some conservative websites around got wind of DU trying to raise money for Andy and turned it into a horrible horrible mess of accusations. I even saw posts (not here) where when it was announced that Andy had passed he had really faked his death and made off with the money. They harassed a very good man (and his partner) for the short remainder of his life. It was just evil. I can think of no other explanation for such a lack of sympathy.

(Turns out if you google his name, some of those mean-spirited posts still exist in cyberspace.
