London, my home city... [View all]
Obviously the recent events are tragic. But just because I am originally from London, and London is a major western city, does not make these any more or less tragic than that if it had taken place anywhere else in the world. And I don't just mean just "Western Countries".
As tragic and terrible as the news from London is, it will be orders of magnitude more tragic if the British Government and other western powers overreact.
By overreacting, I mean blindly attacking a target that has such a nebulous network, such as ISIS.
By overreacting, I mean cracking down on the civil liberties of others.
It's no coincidence that Donald Trump couldn't keep his damn "twitter-mouth" shut, determined to fan the flames.
So yes the London attacks are a tragedy, one that can easily become far worse.
In my opinion, it is more effective to let London's not inconsiderable police force handle this... because how, how, can you ever stop somebody in a vehicle using it as a weapon? You can't.
It's instructive to note that the Western Media treated the recent attack on a Muslim woman in Portland, Oregon (which cost two men their lives when protecting her), did not call it a "terrorist" incident/attack.
However, her attacker was white (and a white supremacist) ... so it comes as no surprise that this was classified as a crime, and not a terrorist attack.
An unfair comparison? No...and the far right in the US (and other countries) does not exactly have a stellar record of non-violence. I can list some if needed, but do
I really have to?
