(6,307 posts)Politics is now treated as a team sport, where the objective is to cling to your team and block out any disagreement. I have no problem with internal politics that sometimes turns nasty. There's a difference between that and the current attitude, which is almost cult-like.
The shooter was an example of the political terrorism that is being encouraged by an increasingly toxic atmosphere in this country. I expect many more incidents (though I hope I'm wrong). I'm not saying "Democrats are encouraging terrorism" - I'm saying that the general tone has turned poisonous.
Basically, we've gotten so mentally lazy that we (the American people) treat our own side as doing no wrong, and the other side as villains. This leads to the country breaking up into factions constantly at war with each other. Something needs to change.
I believe that the issues start with the President, who has done nothing but spew venom since his first day in office.
