(1,148 posts)I assumed the best--that it was a principled decision. That she was sick of logic crushing spin. I believed the Ailes nonsense was never something she wanted to defend. When she attempted a voice of reason saying women shouldn't be assaulted, Gingrich just couldn't believe the nerve.
So she got herself out of that place. She actually has an opportunity to report facts now, maybe wear pants. How can that be a bad thing? Especially if Kelly has a red fan base that trusts her--that can only help everybody, right?
Then all this Alex Jones stuff started getting me nervous. Like we're just going to get Trojan Horsed by Kelly, Gretta, hell maybe Hannity will join NBC at some point?
I haven't seen the interview but I understand it didn't make Mr. Jones look great. I also read that it got poor ratings, yet my twitter feed was LIT with Alex Jones the week beforehand. That means substantially more people heard Alex was under attack than tuned in for the actual Alex burning. It all likely nets us a negative, as one thing I've learned for certain is that any perceived attack on the current rightwing ideology induces a complete shutdown of the prefrontal cortex. Once the 35% begin screaming self-defense statements that come out in a code I'm just beginning to understand, the only thing left to do is walk away and hope they wake up saner next week.
I have no way of knowing Kelly & Co's motives but I am very nervous about the sensational approach. Impassioned debate with RWers is failing absolutely and is failing us every time. I've been considering that the best way to get my dad to hear the word racism without telling me to go fuck myself is to give him a valium beforehand. Not being cheeky--the less emotion, less passion, less sensation, less stimulus, the better chance they can actually hear a fact and listen to it. Alex Jones is not the way to start that.
Change your tactics Ms. Kelly!
