The first was when I was in elementary school and another kid at my school "accidentally" shot himself in the head. He lived, but was never the same.

One of my husband's good friends shot himself in the stomach. He was drunk and depressed over a woman. He didn't make it.

My brother-in-law shot himself in the hand while handling a handgun. He's okay.

Also, a co-worker's son was having a birthday party. I believe he was about 13. He decided it would be cool to show off his dad's handgun. The story wasn't consistent, but in the end one of his birthday guests died on the living room floor after the gun went off. I was friends with the co-worker prior to this incident, but she and her family didn't really own up to their responsibility in the tragedy and I couldn't get past that. It was sheer stupidity that the kids would have access to a handgun, and no parents were home at the time of the shooting. Co-worker had the gall to complain about the blood on her sofa. She still has her son.
