170. I think that the words Brainwashed and Cult are key here.

Much of the behavior of these dyed in the wool Trump supporters is indistinguishable from any true believers in a Cult.
Once someone is truly indoctrinated into a cult, much of their rational thought is cut off, or warped beyond outsiders understanding. Any information that contradicts their world view or understand of the facts is rejected or even attacked as an outrage. They often use the outside enemy that they must stay together as cohesive group of that enemy is going to get them.

Fox news on tv, and Limbaugh/Hannity/ect on radio just constantly indoctrinate these people. They use what are highly researched and effective psychological techniques to get people watching and then slowly rope them in and get them to believe the crap. Fox used a combination of overt sexuality and a quickmoving and inviting production visuals while their competitors were just playing the same thing over and over until it was boring. It worked and people did not even know they were being programmed.

Trump is kind of the logical conclusion. The devotees will overlook any flaw no matter how glaring and believe any BS claim against their enemy as long as it agrees with their programmed world view. I think that many of these Trump supporters really don't believe that they are racist xenophobes. And they can quote bible verses to prove it.

For way too many of the Trumpers, rational discussion and facts will never work. Maybe cult deprogramming, but only on the scale of a Fox news program.
