On a personal level we can often pick our "clans" based on affinities most important to us. But we still live in the larger world, and it effects us all, especially when in the company of "strangers". If it is important enough to us as individuals to fight, if we personally respect diversity, racism retreats far into the background where it mostly lurks in subtle and unconscious ways. That is not a bad state to be in, love and kindness can retain the upper hand then, but it is foolish not to recognize that at some level it's likely still at play unless you live a constantly rich life inside of diverse communities.
