Of all the former slave states, only Virginia and Texas send more money to the federal government than they receive. Mississippi receives more than three dollars for every dollar it sends. But hypocrisy is the preferred mode of communication below the Mason-Dixon line. This is the main reason I'm against a fifty-state approach for the Democratic Party. At present, except Virginia and Florida (and only because so many northeners have moved to those states) I find the south to be irredeemable. Maybe sometime in the future....
