(130,892 posts)it was a personal injury case where the other driver was clearly at fault, and the client had some genuine, though not life-threatening, injuries. But she was so unlikeable, whiney and obnoxious that my friend knew that if he let a jury see her she'd either lose altogether, or at very best get a verdict much too small to compensate her for her actual damages. So he had to talk her into settling the case, which was tricky because he couldn't really tell her she shouldn't go to trial (which she wanted to do) because the jury would hate her. He did manage somehow, and got a fair settlement - though the cranky, whiney client thought it wasn't enough; what she did want was both unreasonable and impossible.
It's hard to be a lawyer for a horrible client. Everyone is entitled to fair representation but it's not easy to do it.
