(7,178 posts)Take a minute to read this personal account of Our Revolution by Yankovich campaign manager Lauren Young:
"I think it is important to share what happened yesterday because my candidate is David Yankovich for Congress, Democrat running for Paul Ryan's seat.
We had 3 events scheduled, but on Friday night David turned to me (Like candidates freaking do!) and says "I want to go to Revolution", the founding convention for Our Wisconsin Revolution, the first state offshoot of Bernie's group.
His reasoning, "they are talking about unity and making things work, and 2018 will be massive if we can help the party come together. I feel like I need to go there and listen to them & let them know I am all about a big blue wave."
I cancelled our other events.
We drove 3 hours to the convention & as soon as we got there we were thrown out.
No, I am not kidding.
We went to the breakout groups for Congressional Districts. As soon as we introduced ourselves (to the 10 or 12 people there), David was asked who he voted for. Yes, he was given an immediate purity test and this group was hostile.
He voted Bernie in the primary then voted Hillary in the general. This did not please the group. Apparently the correct answer was to not have supported the Democratic nominee over Trump?
They told us they wanted us to leave, that they didn't want us to learn their secrets.
David attempted to calm their fears, "I'm not a spy, I'm hear to listen and for unity."
Again, we were told to leave.
I don't ever air my grievances in public but I am fed up with this. If this is their idea of unity, then this is a sign of massive Republican success in 2018 if the left can't get their act together.
This was an official Revolution event."
