Once again a Present-dent under investigation seems to have fingered himself [View all]

Orange Julius inadvertently pointed to a larger truth (and quite possibly himself) when, at the G20 Summit, he tried to protect his Russian pals after a reporter asked him who hacked the U.S. election in November. The key part of his answer was this:

“I think it was Russia, and I think it could’ve been other people and other countries,” Trump said. “Nobody really knows for sure. A lot of people interfere. It’s been happening for a long time.”

Pay attention to those last two sentences, because they may represent another instance of the president speaking as he sometimes does in an unexpectedly self-revealing way. And the sentences resonant against what U.S. intelligence agencies and federal investigations are turning up. To wit:

1. "A lot of people interfere." A lot of people in the Trump campaign and his young administration may indeed have colluded with the Russian interference, according to news reports and statements from U.S. investigators. We'll find out, but for now maybe the prez is getting a little ahead of himself regarding the investigation that involves his campaign and of course, himself. If I were an investigator or a member of Congress on the investigating committees, I'd want to delve into this statement when the Present-dent sits down under oath to answer questions about the election hack.

Another country interfered? Try on the idea of organized political interests in the United States of America.

2. "It's been happening for a long time." It would be fascinating to learn exactly what Trump meant by this. Probably, since he is seldom exacting, he meant nothing in particular. Now, the GOP's Florida vote scheming in the 2000 presidential election is well documented, at this point, but perhaps in the trumpian brain 17 years doesn't constitute "a long time."

In any event, it won't be a long time before we know more about last year's election hacks, and we already know a great deal. And it seems that some American political operatives may have colluded with Russian forces. So perhaps that is one of the present-dent's "other countries," right there.
