i think there are 2 types of people who voted for trump: cult members, who literally would still support him even if he murdered someone on 5th avenue, and greedmeisters/racists, who didn't believe he would be such a total fuck up somehow and only cared that they thought their taxes would go down with a republican government. both involve a measure of delusion as far as i'm concerned. for instance democrats have historically stewarded the economy much, much more effectively than spendthrift republicans. in spite of the facts some people still vote for the republican on economic grounds.

i work with scientists, people with PhDs, MDs, they are smart people - but some of them did vote for trump. we don't talk politics any more (i make no bones about where i stand), but goddammit i just cannot believe that they could still support him after the past 6 months. i don't know. what the hell do i know.

i don't know why i don't ask - i would have said i don't want to embarrass them - but maybe it's because i just want to keep on believing they're smart people. at any rate i have to work with them so it's better this way.
