(58,785 posts)I was busy, then trying to listen while not falling asleep. Think it was earlier. But, though these are experienced people, it was opinion. I took heart from the statement but wouldn't bother looking for it.
My own opinion (
) is that the White House and the worst of the congressional caucuses are stuffed with so many dysfunctional, profoundly dishonest and amoral fools who badly disrespect and underestimate the power and virtues of our republic that they can't help failing. We're watching rather spectacular evidence of just that.
Not coincidentally, after almost two decades of not buying Altemeyer's The Authoritarians because he published it free on line as a public service, I finally ordered and received a bound copy. There are other types of dangerous right wingers, of course, including authoritarian leaders, but reading it these days causes far more political names and faces to pop to mind than it did long ago. Scary, but if their potential for evil is potentially virtually unlimited, so is their capacity for competence.
