Quite the opposite, my Friend! In Haudenosaunee culture (Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy), each clan has two recognized leasders: a Chief, and a Clan Mother. This provides a balance that recognizes the equality -- though not exactness -- of the two sexes. The Clan Mother is usually among the oldest women in the clan; she selects the Chief, and has the power to "de-horn" (remove from office, swo to speak) a chief for good cause.
