In reply to the discussion: Why Are Men Paying Over $20 And More For Razor Blades Costing Pennies To Produce. [View all]Docreed2003
(18,714 posts)I switched to old school wet shaving with a brush and safety razor about five years ago, and I'll never go back to the newer, pricey multiblades. Here's a few reasons:
1). Cost. Multiblades are too damn expensive and their cheaper varieties were tearing my skin up. There is an upfront cost to safety razors and wet shaving but if you're smart about it, that cost can be minimized. I buy a pack of blades maybe, and I mean maybe, once every six months, and they are dirt cheap.
2). Skin Health. So, it takes some getting used to the change. There's a learning curve involved and you can't just rush it like with an electric razor or multiblades. Once you get the technique down, it's a breeze and shaving is my favorite morning ritual. Additionally, I no longer have any issues with skin break outs or razor bumps, and my shave is closer than I ever had with a multiblade
The only downside...I travel every few months with my job and I like to use a carry-on. You can't take safety blades through security. So you'll have to either suffer with a bic or buy some blades when you arrive where your going.
I could rant on and on about my love of the safety blade. Check it out for yourself.
