For the conservatives, the handicap of being black is overcome by the fact that he hates Muslims with a bitter passion--he's just like us.
Plus, he gives them the benefit of walking him out to prove that:
a) We're not racist! We like a black man named Allen West!
b) You criticized Allen West? Why you are a racist, because that's what you always say whenever someone criticizes President Obama! (Never mind the whole birtherism/racist placards at tea party protests/"Don't Re-Nig in 2012" bumper stickers thing that is directed to Obama but not to West.)
