11. I spent years of my childhood

terrified in an air raid shelter in our back yard. Listening to bombs whistling down, my mother whispering "That was close" My father had served in WWI, so was too old for WWII, He was a fire warden in the neighborhood. I grew up frightened of my own shadow, a lot of kids did in Liverpool. I thought THAT was supposed to be the war that ended all wars? Then along comes W, now Donnie. Too bad their childhoods were not as miserable as mine, wars would be avoided like the plague if they had ever lived through one.
