4. It's a lot of people playing soldier.

Some are even veterans. They mourn the loss of what they consider to be the "best days of their lives," and seek to recreate that. The guy in that top photo is living a fantasy, and has equipped himself with the trappings of the military.

What else is going on in his head is hard to reckon, though. I can't see if he has a magazine inserted in his weapon. Often there isn't one, rendering his rifle useless on an immediate basis.

A lot of those people are simply play-acting, for their own ego's sake. But not all. Some are actually eager for some confrontation that has them armed, while the people confronting them are not. Those people are very, very dangerous. This particular guy has the trappings of a pretender who is just acting out a role.
