20. Romney's horrible singing voice, just below the level of consciousness

Jul 2012

You might be in the kitchen, doing dishes, and the kids are maybe watching a baseball game, and that comes on. You hear it. You've seen the text and you know what it says, but that voice - that horrible voice - both reminds you of the substance and plays its own affective havoc on you, just below the level of consciousness, a stinging, a heating up of the skin, something terrible. It is being defined as the background Muzak of the entire GOP effort.

And it's deeply funny. Independents see it and laugh - hell, damn near anyone but an obsessive Romney partisan (are there any?) sees it and laughs, because it's winkingly hilarious, like a perfectly timed yo-mama joke, indisputable one-upsmanship, the crowd shaking the fence after a blistering cross-over in streetball, the proverbial lunchroom all going "Oh, damn!"

I'm donating more money to whoever made that shit, son.

How ya like Chicago politics now, yo?
