2. This is true of any Republican president

Trump is the extreme case, to be sure, but the pattern is familiar. For instance...

"The president has no power to affect the economy" unless:

1. The economy is strong and the president is a Republican
or
2. The economy is weak and the president is a Democrat

If the economy is weak under a Republican, it's because the previous Democrat's policies are finally having their effect, and if the economy is strong under a Democrat, it's because the previous Republicans policies have finally borne fruit.

I've seen it happen many times even during my comparatively few years that I've been politically aware, and I'm sure that it's gone much longer than that.
