(2,404 posts)...is unnecessarily cryptic. It is the result of my lost faith in the political system. For the past couple of years I have been increasingly disgusted with politics. I think I realized for the first time in my life that these people that run for office are not anything special. When we are younger, I think we tend to put elected officials (specifically the presidency) on a pedestal...like they are something special. I no longer see them in that light. Maybe it is a part of my increasing cynism. My post may not immediately sound like it has anything to do with this...but it does.
I have been a proud Democrat all of my life. I suppose now I would be considered a "radical"...some sort of left-wing commie on the fringes of the political spectrum. I never thought of myself as radical. I just thought of myself as someone who had a certain set of beliefs that were best represented by the Democratic Party. By my standards, it should be no surprise that I don't see anyone holding office as a true Democrat...including the President. The Right Wing has been moving further right and they have taken the Democratic Party with them. This is in large part due (IMO) to a Democratic Party with little or no backbone. It is almost as if the current "democrats" in office have forgotten the fundamental principles that made our Party great and the "Party of the People."
It should also be no surprise that I am one of those who is profoundly disappointed in our President. I suppose that some here would say that I didn't "get my pony." The defenders of the President tend to be the younger Dems...the "Blue Dogs" if you will. Those who are disappointed in the President tend to be more traditional Dems that adhere to a more FDR approach to policies. I count myself in the latter.
Anyone here that denies the fact that the President campaigned as (what we would now call Progressive) a traditional Democrat is just flat out lying. However, he has not governed as a Democrat. I don't know if it is simply a lack of experience, obstruction by the Right or whatever...his lack of "fight" is something that baffles me. I suppose I could go on and on.
My post is merely a poor reflection of my disappointment. I grow tired of the games and the "smart-ass" crap that is not only childish, but accomplishes nothing but more of the same.
I know that there are people here that feel the President can do no wrong. I also know that there are others whose disappointment is so profound, they just want to bash him all day. As for myself...it is what it is. My Party has ceased to exist...we are all moderate Republicans now...and I will probably not live long enough to see the often admired principles of our Party return.
