A quick look at CA law shows this would be more likely be false imprisonment, as the distinction in CA appears to be its false imprisonment if you detain someone from leaving or kidnapping if you forcefully move them to another place.

However I am not clear enough on the case law to see if just blocking a vehicle from leaving is enough for the charge, if you don't prevent the person from leaving and walking away. It may be, but on that same hand if so that would allow any protesters who block traffic to face the same charges so it may not be.... every state is different enough that it's hard to know unless you have worked and been training in the details for that state.
