(2,580 posts)If Perez now won't rake the bull by the horns, maybe we at DU need to set up our own squad of media monitors all over the Country to defend our Democratic Party and, essentially at this point, our Democracy FROM the MSM. It's a start, somebody, somehow needs to get this going.
I'm always surprised when I complain to our local news editors that I'm THE ONLY CALL on that story. Think if they got twenty calls.
One of the ways local news has increasingly protected Repugs is by abandoning City Hall reporting as well as never reporting on Congressional vote by our Representatives or even State votes. Republicans thrive in darkness, and the national and local news has been shockingly complicit, negligent in telling voters how their own elected officials vote in their name and on their dime.
It really is time for our local news to change from car crash nightly to being responsible for telling their viewers (consumers) what is being done by their own government, things that are actually effecting their lives.. That also might force them to start hiring some actual reporters with some educational and intellectual foundation for journalism.
Whether it's The DNC, which it should be, or we start a grass roots Media Democratic Defense Squad here by forming a DU group, OR BOTH, something's got to be done. Pencil me in.
