(21,786 posts)Possibly not quite as bad as James Buchanan.
Trump's remarks about "fine people on both sides", equivocation, and refusal to call out neo-Nazi white supremacy after what happened in Charlottesville? That drew condemnation, rebuke, and comment from the Joint Chiefs of Staff (who went on Twitter to say 'no place for bigotry, racism and hatred'); from the governments of the USA's closest allies (the prime minister of the UK, the chancellor of Germany, government ministers in Israel), and from the UN. That's something unprecedented. I can't remember the generals and admirals in charge of the USA's armed services, the USA's closest allies, and the UN jointly condemning anything an American president has said, like that. Trump's actions represent a complete abdication of the moral authority of the office of the President, and by extension of the United States. Bush, for all his faults (which were many), never came close to that.
