(21 posts)I'd agree that it's considered part of the "greater Houston area", but it is not a suburb of Houston. The first and second responses to the OP in this chain are talking about the criticism that Mayor Turner is getting for not ordering mandatory evacuations. Part of the ammunition that the right is using is the horrendous photo of those poor people in the flooded reitrement home.
Dickinson has it's own mayor(Julie Meyers), and its own city councill. Had Mayor Turner ordered the evacuation, it wouldn't have affected the community of Dickinson at all.
Had Mayor Turner ordered evacuation, it wouldn't have affected me. My home is in Harris county, but just across the Houston border and falls in Katy (also has its own mayor), so an ordered evacuation would have had to come from the mayor of Katy.
The Mayor of Houston's authority only extends within the borders of the city of Houston itself. For the purpose of misplaced blame, Mayor Turnor has no accountability for what occurs in Dickinson.
