when a straight person says they like someone of the opposite sex who is gay, others will chime in with 'you know he/she is gay, don't you?' so the poster likely said that in anticipation of such responses.
ive also heard from gay/lesbian friends (especially those who are viewed as conventionally attractive) that they get tired of attention from straights.
