(620 posts)There are very few areas of this country that are not subject to some type of natural disaster.
Most people live in an area that is known to be prone to one or more of those disasters, and they build there anyway, knowing it might happen. (That's why I and others were curious about where you live, but it's no longer important because you're not serious.)
When disaster strikes, we all help, whether we live there or not.
We do this because a) most of us aren't disciples of Ayn Rand, and b) most of us recognize that when something catastrophic happens in one part of this country, it affects us all.
Just like we all build Interstates we may never drive on.
Just like we all pay for schools, even though some of us don't have kids.
Just like... well, the list goes on and on and on and I suspect you know this.
