(15,440 posts)But we progressives, we lib-er-als need to stick together and not allow our party to be forced more to the right than it has been. Because many in the party could as well be Eisenhower Republicans based on how they vote and their stances on issues. I'm talking Pelosi here.
And no, don't get all outraged. I'm not against Pelosi. I'm merely saying that I disagreed with her when she encouraged Dems not to talk about Russia because...why? It's too hard to understand? So was Watergate. People are tired of it? Well, I'm sure tired of Trump, and if he committed treason, then it doesn't matter how tired we are of it. He needs to be brought to justice. I love this country, and for a whole political party to collude with a hostile foreign power to cheat their way to victory in a national election IS NOT OK. Period. It is treason.
And, Pelosi and many others have been slow to advocate Medicare for all Americans. Hey, we are the ONLY industrialized country in the world who does not cover everyone. That's bullshit. THAT is what I want my tax dollars spent on. Because I'll tell you what: right now I have shitty, rationed healthcare with financially crippling copays. Last year, I paid over $16K in premiums AND a whopping $3K for a surgery. That is WELL OVER 20% OF MY GROSS. And again, it is bullshit. The whole idea that we have to be wheeled through the accounting department before we can get treatment, and we have to fight, fight, fight for proper treatment even if we're old and sick is UNCONSCIONABLE.
I ALREADY pay a huge 'tax' for healthcare. It's called premiums. I'd MUCH rather have a big tax increase and not ever have to worry about healthcare. And, yes, I'm willing to subsidize healthcare for the poor with my taxes.
But, gosh, if we do that, then we'll have to slow down on military and national security spending.
And, we'd actually be using OUR tax dollars that we pay in every year for programs that actually benefit us instead of going to profits in some corporation.
So, you know, there's Dems and there's Dems. Yes, they are all better than Republicans, but we are not excused from bugging the hell out of them with telephone calls, emails, letters and signing petitions to force them to actually act in our interest. That is our responsibility as citizens in a republic.
