Still privately owned, I believe. Been around for decades. They hire very talented people for their upper management positions, frequently from outside of Texas. You'd think they would hire from mostly Texas universities, but I've met VPs educated at University of Michigan, Swarthmore, Dartmouth (IIRC), etc. They can afford to help keep their customers alive by vaccinating them.

They have a tendency to drive out all other store chains. No where else to shop except HEB, except little mom & pop stores.
