(15,420 posts)We need to focus on winning future elections. This means getting rid of gerrymandering, voter suppression and the electoral college.
It also means learning to talk effectively and compellingly about our vision to solve kitchen table issues. People worry about getting laid off and losing their health insurance, mostly. Older people worry about Social Security and Medicare mostly. Let's try talking about those things.
The other thing is words matter. Often how you say something is more important that what you are saying. Republicans have mastered this. For instance, they say 'tax reform,' they mean big tax cuts for rich people and corporations. When they say 'entitlements,' they mean Social Security and Medicare, which are earned benefits. We pay for them all the time we work. When we say 'single payer,' it doesn't poll as well as 'Medicare for all Americans.' That polls at 54% favorable last I saw.
We're so close to losing what democracy we had left after Reagan and the Bushes. Trump is one nuke away from declaring martial law and suspending all elections. Charles Koch has a huge, well-funded machine that attacks any social safety nets and our power to push back on a thousand fronts. Koch and his radical libertarians want to impose the living hell of unrestrained capitalism on us.
Let's get our shit together, please, and quit sniping at each other over a primary that happened last year.
