FDR and the politicians that supported his agenda are responsible for a good deal of the social infrastructure we have today, but they were just the politicians of their time with all of the failings. They did some pretty awful things too.

Democrats are people who support all or most of the party's policy platform. That is all. Democrats as a party, try to pick the politicians that best promote the party and the platform. When people start to identify with one person as the "real" then the party becomes irrelevant and the policies become irrelevant.

We want a politician that can garner support because of the way they articulate Democratic Values, but the problem with many Democratic voters is that if it isn't the exact person they like, the superstar, then they get upset and refuse to participate.
