Republicans don't mind caustic personalities (i.e. Rush Limbaugh, Chris Christie) and they actually celebrate them. To them, that's called "shooting straight". As far as the Ryan Budget is concerned, yeah, people don't like it but Romney and Republicans still support it in spite of people not liking it (and you can bet that it will be swiftly passed and sent to a President Romney) and, like with Social Security privatization, Republicans continue to believe that there is a groundswell of support just waiting to be unleashed- if they can just spin it properly. I'm not necessarily saying that picking Ryan would be the *smart* thing for Romney to do in regards to winning in November but it would be reasonable to believe that he might do it to help attract the teabaggers and hammer President Obama on the economy.
