What is going on in northern Colorado? My whole dad's side and my brother turned into Trump lovers

30. They're scared to death of anyone not white like them...

... they know how they treat minorities and are afraid of what will happen when *they* are minorities.

What they don't know is that it doesn't happen that way.

Their grandkids, maybe even their kids, are going to be cosmopolitan. They'll have LGBT friends, non-white friends, and if their home towns remain bigoted, then the misfits, the best and brightest, will move away.

It's the fear of people whose world is shrinking. Rather than embrace the outside world they build walls. They connect with people as fearful as they are, and they are targeted by grifters who exploit their fears.

My grandparents all fled the fabled "great" white America. Make America Great Again? Really??? My grandparents were white, they had privilege, their parents went to the right churches, and they HATED it.

I had one grandfather who hadn't quite made the break. He was upset when I decided to marry, in his words, "A Mexican girl," since men in his Wild West family (Wyoming and Montana) just didn't do that. But to his credit, he got over it. And, it was like he should talk... He joined the Army Air Corp to get the hell out of cow town and see the world, and then he married my grandma, who with her sister had escaped their own proper affluent white upstanding Christian hell to run wild in Hollywood California.
