(4,492 posts)However, if someone wants to spend their $$ on a new phone, that's their business not yours.
I have an older Samsung phone (that I'd like to upgrade next year when the S9 comes out). When you think of it, this is a list of all the devices that my Galaxy has replaced.
Landline
Calculator
Alarm Clock
TV
GPS
Music Player
Video Game console
Camera
Scanner (I take photos of what I would have scanned. Works for short documents too)
Printer (I show people things that I would have otherwise printed on my phone)
There are apps available to replace even more functions (ie a flashlight).
If I carried a flip phone, I probably would not be where I am career wise as a smartphone is a requirement for my job (and I'm sure others). In a field dominated by people younger than me, I'd be seen as a Luddite. (I get a stipend to cover my phone).
I know this forum skews older (I'm a generation behind many here) but this strikes me as another get off my lawn type post and is very condescending towards people who choose to embrace current technology instead of hanging onto the past.
