(1,354 posts)covered right now and would not be if ACA is repleaed is indeed a purity thing, it's short sighted and callous to ignore those people who the ACA is currently helping.
Aggressive offense is not solely backing a plan that doesn't stand a chance of getting out of committee, has no shot in this congress and wouldn't even be implemented for years. The GOP attacking the ACA are also attacking those millions upon millions of Americans who HAVE access to care right now, those are the people who will also be highly suspicious of the Medicare for all Bill, because they know medicare is, that it's not single payer and that no one knows how it might even be implemented.
So why attack those millions upon millions of Americans who rely on the care they have now, to fail to defend their care to ONLY support a single Senator who hasn't written a bill that is strong or well planned out?
It's short sighted and callous to put purity and to cheerlead a favorite politician rather than help defend a law that's ALREADY meeting the needs of millions upon millions, because it's not pure enough to suit the tastes of those who are not affected.
I want the healthcare problem solved to, but it's ludicrous to think there is only one solution, and that one that that has no chance to pass, and isn't even being debated or scored yet. Endless slogans with zero planning to address the complicated mess that is the healthcare system in the US doesn't help anyone.
Ignoring the immediate needs of those who have care and will be suffering and dying once again while people have purity debates about esoteric topics without addressing the harsh reality, is pretty heartless. It comes from a place of privilege and ignorance.
The plan needs to be better and one cannot let the cult of identity blind one to the effects of failing to recognize the effects on actual people right now, in the near future and 3 years from now.
