(8,554 posts)on here! Support for undocumented immigrants shouldn't come with ambiguous conditions such as whether or not you like what actions they may choose to take, should it?
Do any of you condemning these people have any idea what occurred in the House just last week, on Thursday? Maybe try doing a search on H.R.3697 or the Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act to actually try and understand what's sparked the righteous anger of these young vulnerable people. There is a very immediate fear now for not only the parents and grandparents, brothers and sisters, and all extended families of any of the Dreamers, but also for all those groups, organizations, and individuals who might have helped them along the way to attaining a secure place in this nation.
Do you not understand that our government is after them, all of them, DACA recipients and their friends, families, loved ones, and any of those who were too leery to sign away their info to a shaky Federal plan back in 2012 that didn't even guarantee the protection of citizenship to those without "papers"; after them in San Francisco, in blue states and red states, in the fields and the "skilled" jobs, in the schools and colleges, on the border, and more than anywhere, in Washington. They have no vote, no representation whatsoever, except their own activist organizations, such as United We Dream and other Immigrant justice alliances spread across this country.
These are the same kids, the very same groups, who took action to get promises fulfilled back when our Party was still in control of government but did nothing to assure them protection from deportation, human rights, and a future that made it possible for them to have any dreams. They took much the same action as today, with President Obama in D.C. and their persistent progressive LOUD movement for justice is the only reason why DACA came to be in the first place in 2012.
Where's the empathy for the fragile current situation of 11 million people who've been living and working in the U.S.A. simply to have a chance at a better life?
I am both astounded and saddened coming into this thread. Walk a couple miles in an undocumented immigrant's shoes, then get back to me.
