giving residents about a 1-minute warning window. I don't understand it, but MC is built on an ancient lake bed, which can play hell with forces transitioning to it from surrounding rock, like in 1985, but that grave problem is also part of a geologic advantage that allows the warning system to work, at least most of the time. A lot of other areas aren't so "fortunate."
