Letter to LA City Council to ban the National Anthem in schools and city venues [View all]
I sent a letter to the Los Angeles City Council with regard to banning the National Anthem for city and LAUSD activities. 14 of the 15 councilmembers are Democrat; only one (Councilman Englander) is GOP. Here is the letter:
"Dear Honorable Councilmembers (not including Englander):
It has been demonstrably shown the the National Anthem of the United States, authored by slaveholder and white supremacist Francis Scott Key, is the cause for great turmoil for many Los Angeles citizens, particularly those of color and most immigrants. Therefore, the council should immediately ban the performance of the National Anthem from all public events, schools, institutions, and other venues, including the professional sports teams that play within the city limits at publicly funded venues (the county and the state will have to supply permission for the Coliseum). Please consider this ban on an immediate basis.
In addition, consider banning the Pledge of Allegiance in its entirety from LAUSD venues, and to remove the US flag from all classrooms.
Thank you for your attention."
Hopefully I'll get a response, and at least start the conversation that needs to happen
