A buddy of mine was barred and refused rehabilitation to go on trips with his wife and son to see her family in Ontario because while his primary conviction was larceny he also was convicted of being in possession of a weapon (a knife) during the commission of a crime.

Apparently Canadian immigration told him that they could grant rehabilitation on the larceny charge but any weapons charge was a dealbreaker.
