(17,032 posts)We can disagree, but I see a lot of similarities between protesting and advertising. Both involve creating an image and story and communicating it to the target audience.
Like protesting, advertising can be subtle, thought provoking, or shocking.
All I am trying to say is that if the purpose of your message isn't getting out as intended, it is not achieving it's intended purpose. You don't have to convince the left, the far right will never be convinced, but it is the middle that should be who you are trying to get on your side.
You can call them ignorant or blame the media, but if most think the players are disrespectful of the anthem , flag, or country, you will get a lot of backlash and therefore have failed to get your message out making your protest ineffective.
Rosa Parks perhaps had one of the most effective protests. That along with the boycott was very persuasive and she became an icon. Nobody would ever say her methods were designed to shock people, but she was very sympathetic and garnered a lot of support around the country.
