(17,446 posts)I remember the pictures of the School Busses in the flooded parking lot. Media never did mention that there were not enough drivers, or that the roads out of New Orleans would have resulted in a couple hundred busses loaded with evacuees would have been riding out a Category 4 storm stuck in traffic.
It makes me wonder why some in the media haven't gone to Naval Station Norfolk (where I am today), and snapped a bunch of pictures of all our "big, beautiful, powerful, gleaming" ships tied up to the piers.
Check out Mayport, FL base as well, and you might want to check San Diego and Everett, WA too. It would take some time, but once you get there, it's only about a 12-14 hour Sea and Anchor Detail to get through the Panama Canal.
This should have been "all hands on fucking deck". As many people as our ships and planes could have carried should have been boat and airlifted off PR before the storm even hit.
We can ground 10's of thousands of flights in the United States in a matter of hours on 9/11, but we can't get ships and planes to PR?
