(5,901 posts)36. I've been asking that question for years. He could never have served as President.
I believe the claim was made at the time that a child born of American citizens in a foreign country is American. However, the Romney who first settled in Mexico was banished there by the U.S. Government because they were part of a polygamist group. So I am curious about the citizenship status of those children, although it matters not. John McCain was born in Panama and he was considered a U.S. citizen because he was born on an American naval base.
