Puerto Rico - one survivors first hand account [View all]
One of my hobbies is ham radio, and as has been reported in the media some of the sparse news coming out of Puerto Rico has been via ham radio. There was a Puerto Rican ham on tonight from the mountainous regions, he said they still don't have power, and there has been no food nor water delivered to his village yet. Mind you, this fellow is one of the more affluent people in his area so he's relatively better off than others around him, and his house survived the storm relatively intact. Still, he's running a generator for just a few hours a day to keep the food in his refrigerator and freezer from spoiling and he gets on the radio during those periods of time. He said that he's heard stories of lines of people several miles long waiting for food and water in the places where it's available.
Somehow we're managing to let these people slip from our consciousness while 45* tries to convince himself that all is well. I wish there were something more we could do to keep the plight of these Americans front and center and force 45* into calling for more aid.
