1. yeah. kneeling has never been a sign of disrespect until the right wing decided to pretend it was.

kneeling before royalty is a sign of subservience and respect.
kneeling in prayer is a sign of humility and reverence.
kneeling to ask for a hand in marriage is a sign of respect and honor.

it's never a sign of disrespect and in fact usually a sign of respect, or at least positive things.

but the right wing desperately needed to change the subject away from a powerful, respectful, peaceful protest that was getting a big national platform that involved black people daring to ask to not be randomly shot.

naturally, the right-wing couldn't use logic and facts because that never works well for them, so they shifted the subject and claimed a false victimhood, something they're very good at doing. oh, never mind those dead americans over there, we're all offended that you decided to do your protest during a song! how dare you interrupt that nice song we were listening to!

anyway, so, yeah. they decided to pretend that kneeling was a sign of disrespect because, basically, they got nothing. they had to come up with some kind of argument, so they created one out of a complete lie.

and, predictably, the media ran with it and sees nothing wrong in all this.

and guess what? no one's talking about those dead americans. at best we're talking about whether football players have the right to protest.

our national political discourse is completely fubar.
