10. These hotels have a lot of control over what goes on on their property

Absent really knowing much about the condition of the guard and his ability to communicate after he was wounded, I'm pretty sure the hotel has been seeking to manage information about what went on there, as they attempt to anticipate potential liability issues.

Apparently the location and condition of the guard was either not known to the hotel, or not communicated to police:

Police officers who started searching the hotel after the shooting began didn’t know a hotel security guard had been shot “until they met him in the hallway after exiting the elevator,” Lombardo said. He didn’t say whether Campos notified casino security after he was shot.
