9. Holding women as "sacred?"

As in "don't sully your delicate fingers trying to do a man's job?" This paternalistic shit really skeeves me. I think *men* are sacred--how about that? And shouldn't come down from their pedestals to mess in the workplace, politics, anywhere where they could make a difference? Why is it that *men* get to decide who's "sacred?" This 19th century fantasy of the Angel of the Hearth was used to keep women out of positions of power for decades. We were supposed to be the guardians of morality but without any authority to, oh, I don't know--keep men from abusing us? And I'm wondering if he thinks *all* women are sacred, or just the white ones? Most domestic workers are women of color--are they "sacred," too? How can he bear to see them doing all that hard physical labor?
